Overview
Bassetlaw Youth Council is made up of young people from across Bassetlaw who want to influence local decisions about the district. They are passionate about the place where they live and want to ensure that young people’s views are heard.
The Youth Council provides opportunities to raise awareness about the issues that matter most to young people, and campaign at a local and national level. Young people will have the opportunity to shape their own projects focusing on community action, volunteering, and education.
Application Process
Young people will need to apply to join the Bassetlaw Youth Council, by emailing youth.council@bassetlaw.gov.uk a paragraph about why they want to join and what they will get out from it.
Youth Councillors will gain access to a variety of skills, training, leadership opportunities which amplifies CV resumes and UCAS applications.
All communications will go through the email inbox, including meeting calendar invitations.
Meetings
- The Youth Council will run alongside the school term (September to July).
- Meetings take place every 2 months in person. The location of the meeting will be determined in the workplan and cover the district of Bassetlaw.
- Each meeting is 90 minutes.
- Bassetlaw Youth Council Member capacity is 22 members
- All sessions are non-smoking, no alcohol, and no mobile phones
- An agenda will be circulated before the meeting
Eligibility and Expectations
Young people can join the Youth Council if they fulfil the following criteria:
- Aged 11-19
- Live, work, or educated in Bassetlaw
- Can attend in person Youth Council meetings every 2 months, or provide apologies in advance for absence
