Know Your Place Trent Valley is a collaborative project, bringing together communities either side of the River Trent across parts of four local authority areas - Bassetlaw, West Lindsey, Newark and Sherwood, and North Kesteven. The aim is to provide a consistent engagement opportunity to residents living near the former coal-fired power stations at West Burton, Cottam, and High Marnham, recognising the impact the redevelopment of these sites and related schemes are likely to have on the local area.
Know Your Place is an approach to community engagement that places an emphasis on building understanding in and of communities. It differs from consultation, in that it is not about seeking views on a particular proposal, but about helping residents to voice what matters to them, both now and in the future. Responses are tagged by location and theme, allowing the data, once published, to be queried by place or topic, serving the needs of multiple audiences.
As a project that crosses traditional administrative and geographical boundaries, collaboration between partners is key. At a local level, Know Your Place Trent Valley is being led by officers from Bassetlaw District Council, with the support of neighbouring West Lindsey District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, and North Kesteven District Council.
The initiative is being delivered on behalf of the Trent Supercluster Partnership, funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). EMCCA has identified the Trent Valley as a key component of its spatial and economic development strategies, reflected in the emerging Trent Supercluster project - learn more and register for updates on the dedicated project webpage. Know Your Place Trent Valley is positioned and timed to help inform the development of this significant regional project.
