It’s time to pick the nation’s favourite parks

Bassetlaw District Council is encouraging people to support Kings’ Park and The Canch (Memorial Gardens) by voting in the People’s Choice Awards

This year an army of experts awarded a record breaking 1,973 Green Flag Awards to the UK’s very best parks and green spaces and once again Kings’ Park and The Canch were given a prestigious Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy. The scheme is now asking the public to vote for their favourites.

Whether you enjoy visiting our parks or green space to play football, walk the dog, exercise or simply get away from the hustle and bustle, then now is your opportunity to vote for Kings’ Park and The Canch as your favourite parks.

Cllr Simon Greaves, Leader of the Council, said: “To have two of our parks recognised for their high standards with Green Flag Awards is a fantastic achievement. But now it’s time for the Bassetlaw public to have their say and vote for the UK’s favourite park.

“We’d love for one or both of Bassetlaw’s parks to make it into the UK’s top 10, so please show us how much you love our parks by casting your vote on the website!”

You can find your nearest award-winning parks at To vote for your favourite, simply find it on the map and click the vote button. Once you’ve voted, why not encourage others to get involved too.

Voting opened on 1 September and closes 30 September, with the top 10 winning sites being announced on 15 October.

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award Manager said, “This year we have had more Green Flag Award winning sites than ever before, The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now.”

Last year saw tens of thousands of people voting for their favourite park, with winners coming from all across the UK, from London to Lanarkshire.

A spokesperson for Gateshead Council said: “We are delighted that Saltwell Park was voted as one of the top ten parks in the country in 2018. It shows that the public truly value this wonderful open space.

“We are very proud of Saltwell Park and how important it is to the local community.”
