Bassetlaw District Council is to host a parade for Remembrance Sunday this year on Sunday 13th November from 10:10am and 12:30pm.
The Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Alex Peace-Gadsby DL, Chairman of the Council, Cllr Madelaine Richardson, Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Jo White, and the council’s Chief Executive have been invited to take part in the parade.
Joining them will be Councillors, Alderman, Royal British Legion representatives, Army Reservists, cadet units, ex-service associations, Police and Fire Service representatives and voluntary organisations.
The Parade will ‘form-up’ in the Old Market Square in front of the Town Hall at around 10.10 am under the direction of the Parade Marshall, Sergeant Neil Orton.
The Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Alex Peace-Gadsby and the Chairman of the District Council, Councillor Madelaine Richardson will then inspect the Parade accompanied by music played by the Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band.
At approx. 10.35am, the Parade will ‘march off’ from the Market Square down to the War Memorial via Potter Street and Watson Road.
A short wreath laying Service and Act of Remembrance conducted by Canon Nicolas Spicer will take place at the War Memorial at approximately 10.50am. The Worksop Salvation Army Band will play ‘The Last Post’ before the two minutes silence at 11.00am followed by the playing of the ‘Reveille’.
Following the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial, the Parade will then process back to the Old Market Square at Worksop Town Hall for ‘Parade dismissal’.
Cllr Madelaine Richardson, Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council said: “I hope that members of the public will join us at the Remembrance Day Parade in Worksop to commemorate the individuals who have given their service, and in some cases their lives, to ensure our protection and freedoms.
“It’s my honour as the Chairman of the Council to be able to attend this important event and think not only of members of the Armed Forces, but also their families, friends, and the sacrifices that have been made by those who have defended us.”
The following road closures will be in place from Sunday, 13th November 2022 between 10:30am and 12:30pm:
- Memorial Avenue, Worksop - for its whole length.
- B6040 Watson Road, Worksop - from its junction with Memorial Avenue to its junction with Potter Street.
- Potter Street, Worksop - from its junction with B6040 Watson Road to its junction with Bridge Street.
- Bridge Street, Worksop - from its junction with Westgate to its junction with Potter Street
