Community Grants support  Bassetlaw Triathlon Club

Bassetlaw Triathlon Club will be using a £300 donation from a collective of Bassetlaw Councillors to help ensure that local residents have the opportunity to get involved in triathlons at all levels.The Councillors’ Community Grants were award to the Triathlon Club, which was founded in 2012 as part of the Bassetlaw Games and has gone from strength to strength over the last seven years.

The club offer three swimming sessions and one cycle performance session per week at Worksop Leisure Centre, with club membership ranging from complete beginners to those competing for Great Britain in different age group teams. The team also organises the increasingly popular annual Bassetlaw Sprint Triathlon.

Club secretary, Yannie Duveen said: “We are very grateful for this generous grant from the councillors. In the past we have used such grants to fund training for new coaches in the club. This money will be put towards ensuring the club continues to offer the people in the Bassetlaw area an opportunity to become involved in triathlons at any level.”

Cllr Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Ward member for Worksop South, said:

“On behalf of all councillors who have provided this grant, we are delighted to help a community group such as this one. Bassetlaw Triathlon Club is an excellent example of a new club which is going from strength to strength.  The club have grown in size and strength, and are now a force to be reckoned with in this country, with both new and experienced athletes that compete up to the highest levels.”

Councillors who contributed to the £300 Community Grant included; Cllr Julie Leigh, Cllr Jo White, Cllr John Shephard and Cllr Cliff Entwistle.
