Barnby Babes welcome Councillor donation

A Blyth play group has benefitted from a £100 donation from Bassetlaw District Councillor, Barry Bowles as part of his Councillor Community Grant.

Barnby Babes were thrilled to accept the donation that will be used to buy new play equipment and play mats for their group which meets each Friday.

Organiser Sarah Evans said: “This donation is really helpful and we were really surprised to be offered the opportunity to apply as we didn’t realise things like this existed.

“We’ve been running since January 2018 and took over the previous toddler group which unfortunately closed in 2017. Other than the money we raise ourselves we don’t have any another financial support, so this will help us to buy additional soft play equipment. We’re really grateful to Cllr Bowles and on behalf of all the children, we’d like to say thank you.”

Cllr Bowles, Ward Member for Blyth said: “Councillor Grants enable us to help community groups just like this one and I hope that the new play equipment the Barnby Babes are now able to buy will bring a lot of joy and happiness to the children who are part of this group.”

The Barnby Babes meet at the Barnby Memorial Hall in Blyth on Friday mornings between 9:30am and 11am. They welcome children from birth to school age.

Drinks and snacks are provided in warm, safe and relaxing surroundings where the children are encouraged to mix with others and share activities, while their parents, grandparents or carers can have a chat and join in the activities.

The fees are £3 per session (£1 extra for each additional child). All the money collected goes towards running the group, providing refreshments, replacing equipment and treating the children at special times such as Easter and Christmas.
