Unauthorised Encampment: Chancery Lane Car Park, Retford

There are a number of Caravans and associated vehicles parked in Chancery Lane Car Park, Retford.

This encampment is unauthorised and constitutes an act of trespass. There is a set legal route that the Council has to follow in order to regain possession of the land. Council Officers served notice on those occupying Chancery Lane Car Park on 20th of May asking them to move on, but this was ignored. Papers were then submitted to the Court and a hearing took place yesterday where we sought a Court Order for possession of the land. Unfortunately this was adjourned by the Judge and the Council’s claim for possession will not now be heard until Monday 6th June.

Council Officers have served notices on those occupying the land. At this stage there is no further action we can legally take until the Court hearing.

If the Court Order is granted and not complied with after notice has been served, then the Court Bailiff will be required to enforce the Order.

The Council has received a number of allegations of criminal behaviour. Please be aware that any criminal activity should be reported to Nottinghamshire Police.
