A Christmas message from the Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council

A Christmas message from the Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council

Christmas means different things to different people.  For me, Christmas is a time for family, and a time for reflection on everything that has happened over the past twelve months.

As Chairman of the District Council it is a great privilege to be invited to events, ceremonies, celebrations and commemorations across the District. From our villages and parishes to our towns, I never fail to be impressed by the strength of community spirit and the work of so many volunteers who give up their time to help and support others. You really do get to see the best of Bassetlaw.

I’d also like to pay tribute to all those people who work so hard to keep us safe and well, from the NHS and Armed Forces to the blue light services, many of whom will be working over Christmas. I’d also like to thank our Council Staff for the work they do for the District.

For many people, this year hasn’t been easy. The rising cost of living has had an impact on everybody and some people will have had to scale back plans and make hard choices this Christmas. I am grateful for the tireless efforts of our partners in the voluntary sector who have done so much to support people with the cost of living this year.

It is also heart-warming to see that a number of local charities have again been collecting donations of toys, games and gifts for children and families, and ensure that even through the toughest of times, there is still a present to unwrap on Christmas Day.

I’m looking forward to the New Year with a sense of optimism and a renewed faith that 2023 will bring better times for us all. We have an incredible community spirt here in Bassetlaw and I can’t wait to meet more of you when my official duties resume in January. So, whatever Christmas means to you or however you choose to spend this festive time of year, on behalf of Bassetlaw District Council, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
