Christmas Bin Collections

Christmas Bin Collections

With the festive season now in full swing, Bassetlaw District Council is letting residents know about the changes to their bin collections over the Christmas Period.

From Monday 29 November, stickers will be placed on residents’ bins to inform them of the changes in collection days over the Christmas period and throughout January. Information will also be provided about the Council’s Flat Lid Policy.

Changes to Christmas collection days will begin on Monday 27 December and will last until Saturday 22 January 2022, with normal collections resuming on Monday 24 January 2022.

It is important that residents make a note of their revised bin collection dates as our refuse crews may not be able to return to collect any missed bins that are not put out for collection on the correct dates. Information on the changes is available on our website - Christmas Bin Collections and on our social media channels.

Cllr Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “Each year our collection dates change due to the Christmas Bank Holidays and it’s extremely important that residents make a note of these changes.

“It’s also really important that you check what items you can recycle in your Blue Bins over Christmas. We think the majority of Bassetlaw residents want to do the right thing and recycle as much as possible, but please check which items can be recycled through kerbside collections and what items you can take to the Household Recycling sites.

“In the lead up to Christmas, we’ll be sharing information online and on social media about which items can be placed in your Blue Bin and where you can take other items to be recycled.”

“Our refuse crews work extremely hard during the Christmas period and I’d like to thank them in advance for the efforts they make to get out collections back to normal as quickly as possible.”

This year’s Bin Stickers will also carry information about the Council’s Flat Lid, No Side Waste Policy, which will be enforced from 1 February 2022. As part of this, we will not be collecting any bins that are overloaded, have bin lids raised or collect any side waste.

Just some of the reasons for this include the safety of refuse crews, who can be injured or hurt when collecting and loading overly filled bins and by raised lids that can blow up into the faces of staff in blustery conditions. Raised bin lids can also allow the spread of litter and encourage vermin.

More information will be publicised in the lead up to the enforcement of the Recycling and Refuse Policy.
