North Nottinghamshire’s largest skills and careers event – What Next – has been described as a great success after helping thousands of young people to bring their future careers options into sharper focus.
Almost 2,000 young people from schools, post 16 centres and colleges across Bassetlaw were able to speak with around 100 exhibitors from a wide range of sectors including engineering, technology, food production, finance, logistics, leisure, health, education and much more.
It is now hoped that the event has helped to shape the future careers of young people in North Nottinghamshire by bringing careers choices to life and inspiring them to pursue their dream job once they leave school.
Cllr Simon Greaves, Leader of Bassetlaw District Council, said: “What Next was a fantastic event and I was blown away by number of young people who attended and the exhibitors who provided them with real-life advice and guidance about how to land their dream job.
“I believe this event was a great success and will prove to be an invaluable experience for the young people who attended, and the businesses and organisations who are actively seeking out future talent for their workforce.”
Sally Gillborn, Chief Executive of North Notts BID, added: “We’re delighted by how the event went. To have so many young people come down and see what employers in the Bassetlaw area can offer them is great, and a testament to the opportunities that are available. Our young, local talent is one of the area’s greatest selling points for businesses and What Next has been an excellent way to showcase that.”
‘Delivered in partnership by North Notts BID and Bassetlaw District Council and supported by Bassetlaw Integrated Care Partnership and Futures, What Next introduced 15 to 19-year-old learners to the wealth of careers available to them in a multitude of sectors; in addition to post 16/18 options including Apprenticeships, A levels, Vocational Qualifications, and Higher Education.
It also provided an opportunity for parents and carers to join the conversation with a dedicated afternoon session.
Should you wish to be part of the 2020 edition of ‘What Next in North Notts’, details will be available at www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/whatnext in due course.
