The Government has recently announced that outdoor markets will be allowed to re-open from this week, along with a number of other high street shops from 15th June, providing they are Covid Secure and can show that customers will be kept safe.
Public safety, and the safety of market traders and our staff, is our number one priority and, before we can announce a proposed date for our markets to make a phased return, there are a number of steps that need to be taken.
The Council is currently working through the most up to date Government guidance and is putting plans in place to ensure that our markets in Worksop and Retford are able to operate safely and are Covid Secure.
Working in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, Via and other stakeholders including high street retailers, the North Notts BID and the respective Business Forums in Worksop and Retford, these plans will also take into account the wishes of other retailers on our high streets to re-open and the ability to manage the flow of pedestrian traffic and additional queuing systems in the safest ways possible.
Only when all the necessary plans are in place and we are confident that our markets can be run safely, in conjunction with the re-opening of other high street shops, will we make a further announcement about proposed return date for our markets in Worksop and Retford.
Until this time, stalls selling food will continue to operate in Worksop on Wednesdays and Fridays, and in Retford on Thursdays and Saturdays. Trading hours are between 8:30am and 1pm.
