Bassetlaw District Council is helping residents to lower their energy bills and improve the efficiency of their homes thanks to a Government-funded scheme.
The Home Energy Improvement scheme, funded by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Midlands Net Zero Hub (MNZH), has so far helped 60 properties in Bassetlaw receive free energy efficient works.
This has included the installation of external wall insulation on 22 homes, loft insulation in 45 properties and Solar PV to 18 properties across the district. The scheme also offers air source heat pumps, double glazing windows and cavity wall insulation to eligible properties.
Rhodesia residents, Mr and Mrs Thomas have benefitted from the scheme and recently had external wall insulation fitted to their home. Mr Thomas said; “Before the improvements, we used to get mould on our kitchen wall and I had to paint it a couple of times in the winter. The windowsills were also cracked and let moisture through.
“Since we’ve had the work done it’s been much better and overall it’s much warmer. Now we only have the heating on for an hour in the morning and we can manage all day and then only have it on a night when it’s cold.”
The Home Energy Improvements scheme is helping to reduce carbon emissions and lessen fuel poverty across Bassetlaw and has so far distributed £896,000 of grant funding.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy, said; “The Council is proud to play a pivotal role in facilitating this scheme. By managing this funding, we have been able to support our residents who are most in need. Further, we will build on this success and continue to spread this work across the district.”
The Council has been working with Shirebrook-based Westville Insulation to upgrade residents’ homes. Sean Stevenson, Managing Director said: “It’s been great to work in the small communities across the district because it gives an uplift to the whole area.
“All of the things we are doing are to make their homes warmer, which is fantastic and it gives the houses a nice new look, gives them a face lift, so people get a lot of benefits from this scheme. The residents feel better, the house is warmer and the community has an uplift. We look forward to helping more people in Bassetlaw communities in the future.”
The Council is continuing to help residents to keep their homes warm and reduce their heating bills through a number of funding streams, both for homes that have access to gas and those without access to gas.
Residents may be eligible for Home Energy Improvement grants if they meet the following criteria:
- If you live in a property with no gas supply and an EPC rating of D, E, F or G, and earn a combined household income of less than £31,000 per annum.
- If you live in a property with a gas supply and an EPC rating of D, E, F or G, and earn a combined household income of less than £30,000 per annum.
