Disclosure and Barring Service Checks for Current Licence Holders

You will be contacted by Personnel Checks prior to your renewal date to make an application for your enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

A DBS Certificate may be accepted which has been issued to another local authority if:

  1. It is an enhanced DBS certificate and have been processed in relation to the child and adult workforce employment position; and
  2. The enhanced DBS certificate has been printed within the last two months

The date displayed on any DBS Certificate, which is presented to the Council in support of an application cannot not be more than 2 months before the date that the licence is granted.

The Council requires all drivers to have a DBS and DVLA check annually (each year by the
anniversary date of the licence). If the information is not provided to the Council by the
anniversary date of the grant of the licence the licence may be suspended or revoked until the information is provided.

During the operational period of a driver’s licence Licensees can subscribe to the DBS Online Update Service rather than having to undertake a full annual DBS check. Please see the link below for further information on how to do this:

DBS UPDATING SERVICE

You must register for the updating service within 19 days of your DBS certificate being issued the cost of the service is £13 (as at Jan 2017). A subscription to the update service lasts for one year. You can renew your subscription through the update service, either:

  • when you first register, by choosing automatic renewal
  • up to 30 days before your current subscription ends - but you can’t renew on the last day of your subscription

If you don’t renew your subscription before it ends, you’ll need to apply for a new DBS check and register for the update service again.

If you choose not to register for the update service, you will have to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate each year by contacting Personnel Checks via telephone on 01254 355662

During the operational period of a driver licence the Licensee just provide an access code to the Council to enable Officers of the Council to access his/her DVLA record each year. Failure to provide the access information by the anniversary date of the grant of a licence may result in the suspension or revocation of the driver’s licence and referral to the Licensing Committee.
