Notice of vacancy in office of Councillor Ranskill Ward
NOTICE IS GIVEN in accordance with Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that due to the resignation of Councillor Paul Nicholls, a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Ranskill Ward.
To call a by-election to fill the vacancy a request must be made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TWO electors for the Local Government Area.
An election so requested would normally be held within thirty-five days of receipt of the request (computed in accordance with Section 243(4) of the Local Government Act, 1972).
Currently, the Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus) (Postponement of Elections and Referendums) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 provide that the earliest date any such by-election may be held is Thursday 6 May 2021. The poll for the by-election would be combined with the polls for County Council and Police and Crime Commissioner Elections.
A request made later than 35 days (computed as above) before Thursday 6 May 2021 will require that the by-election be held separately on a date within 35 days of the request.
If no request for an election is received, the seat will remain vacant and be filled at the next ordinary election in May 2023.
