The District of Bassetlaw

About Bassetlaw

The beautiful District of Bassetlaw is situated in leafy North Nottinghamshire and boasts thousands of acres of rolling countryside, parkland and ancient woodlands.

Picture of Worksop MarketLincolnshire's Fens and Wolds border the District to the east with the spectacular Peak District to the West. The East Coast holiday resorts are within easy reach and the vibrant cities of Nottingham (South) and Sheffield (North) are less than an hour away.

Bassetlaw has two main population centres, the market towns of Worksop and Retford, which are home to the majority of its 107,713 residents.

Visitors can explore our villages and hamlets or venture further afield from this superbly situated touring centre.

Bassetlaw enjoys a reputation as a pleasant place to live, work and enjoy leisure time with a lower cost of living than in nearby cities.

Clumber Park, the most popular visitor attraction in North Nottinghamshire is just one of our country parks. Woodlands, charming villages and the Dukeries estates are among Bassetlaw's other attractions. With the world famous Sherwood Forest on the doorstep there is something for everyone in this historic, semi-rural district.

The area is served by two councils; Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

Bassetlaw provides good business opportunities with industrial units of all sizes available across the District. Our location means we are ideally situated for businesses with nationwide distribution requirements. B&Q's new distribution centre at the former Manton Colliery and the new Robin Hood Airport just outside the District provide a wide range of employment opportunities.

The District has one of the best performing Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts in the country, with back to back inspections showing a maximum three star service. The same is true of Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust which also provides a three star service.

This website will provide further insight into our historic and rapidly regenerating District. The introduction to our history, range of services, business development opportunities and useful local information will prove invaluable to residents and visitors alike.

A warm welcome awaits you in Bassetlaw.
