About Bassetlaw District Council
Our Mission
"We aim to secure the best
possible quality of life for everyone in Bassetlaw.
This can be achieved through
working with others - from as many organisations as will help - to
provide the widest range of services our means will
allow"
The District Council provides numerous
services to Bassetlaw residents including refuse collection,
recycling, leisure service, planning and business support. It
is run by 48 Councillors and the current composition following the
May 2008 elections is Conservative 30, Labour 16 and Independent
2.
Bassetlaw is therefore a Conservative
controlled Council.

Bassetlaw District Council operations
are split into 6 services. Within each one is a manager (Head
of Service), to take care of the day-to-day running of it.
The individual services are:
- Community Engagement and
Performance
- Community Prosperity
- Environment and Housing
- Finance and Property
- Revenues and Customer Services
- Support Services
We also have a Human Resources
Department within the Council who deal with staff recruitment,
training and welfare.
Our Strategic Priorities
In 2007 the Council revised its priorities to ensure we continue
to meet local needs. The priorities also reflect survey findings at
a County and District level and Government priorities.
The four priorities listed below are set out in more detail in
our Corporate Plan:
- Safe and strong
- Clean and green
- Jobs and enterprise
- Efficient and effective
The Council does not work in isolation but with other key
organisations such as the Primary Care Trust, Police and voluntary
services through the Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership (BLSP)
to improve the quality of life for local people, delivering joined
up services and cutting duplication. The plans the BLSP has
for Bassetlaw are laid down in its Sustainable Community Strategy –
which sets goals to be achieved in all areas of life including
business, education, health, environment, community safety,
transport, our communities and children and young people.
