Parish Councils
Also in this section:
A parish council is an elected body of members
for the parish. They are affectively the first tier (Grass roots)
local authority. It provides a voice for local parishioners up to
district, county and ultimately government level.
Traditionally their powers include providing and
maintaining monuments, playing fields, footpaths, churchyards,
administering local charities, and they may impose a limited local
tax rate. These powers have developed to include areas such
as crime prevention, planning objections, election of school
governors and traffic calming.
