Children and Young People
Bassetlaw District Council actively promote and develop the
Bassetlaw District Youth Assembly in partnership with
Nottinghamshire County Council.
We want all young people in Bassetlaw to have equality of
opportunity and to have access to services that will enable them to
have a high quality of life.
The Council has shown its commitment to young
people in Bassetlaw by having a Young People’s champion who is
Councillor Chris Wanless. The role of Young People’s ‘champion’, is
to ensure that Young People’s issues are amongst the priority
issues being considered by the Council.
We actively support young people in sports
participation. The Sports Development Unit promotes physical activity
in young people and the Sporting Chance programme provides diversionary
activities to develop skills for young people aged 18-24 at risk of
becoming socially excluded.
Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership (BLSP) are running a large
multi-media event in late Spring 2009. After consultation
with students at local schools the event has been named
‘Plugged’ and will be aimed at 13- 15 year olds. This will give
young people the opportunity to access information, advice and
support networks in an event with live music and video games.
