Our Mission Statement

To Encourage More Bassetlaw People to become More Active More Often

(Sport and Recreation Strategy) 


How will we deliver the Mission Statement?

By offering support, advice and working in partnership with others, the Bassetlaw Sports Development Service aim to increase participation in Sport and Physical Activity for as wide a cross section of Bassetlaw residents as possible.

 

What are the overall aims of Bassetlaw Sports Development Service?

  • Work in partnership to ensure effective and efficient use of resources and avoid duplication.
  • Increase the access and usage of facilities across the District for Sports and Physical Activity opportunities.
  • Raise the profile of Sports and Physical Activity and highlight health benefits and improvement in the quality of life associated with active lifestyles.
  • To increase the pride across Bassetlaw through Sports and Physical Activity success stories.

 

What do Bassetlaw Sports Development Service do?

  • Offer strategic help and advice linked to National/Regional and County priorities.
  • Represent Bassetlaw views at County and Regional Forums
  • Act as advocates for good practice such as offering advice linked to Child Protection issues and Sports Club Accreditation Schemes.
  • Offer funding advice at varying levels
  • Support the workers of The Bassetlaw Sports Forum and various sports specific action groups
  • Operate a comprehensive Coach Education and Coach Development Programme
  • Offer support across the District to enhance Sports Club Development
  • Organise an annual Sports Calendar of Events linked to the Bassetlaw School Sports Partnership including the Annual Youth Games.
  • Organise the Annual Bassetlaw Sports Awards - a review of the Districts Sporting Achievements
  • Support The S.A.N.D (see the ability not the disability) Sports Club which offers twice weekly sports sessions for young people with a disability
  • Organise weekly "Play with Purpose" special needs swimming lessons
  • Manage and administer the District performance swim squads "The Bassetlaw Swim Squads".
  • Through partnership working operate the "Go For Fit" GP referral scheme, the "Healthy Hearts" cardiac rehabilitation scheme, and the "Healthy Walking" scheme across the whole District
  • Deliver outreach Multi-Skills School Holiday activity schemes in isolated rural communities throughout the year.
  • Manage the young persons social inclusion sports project "A Sporting Chance"
  • Manage the young persons social inclusion football project "A Footballing Chance"

Quest Accreditation

Quest Logo

Bassetlaw Sports Development Service were last assessed by the external Quest assessor in October 2005 achieving a score of 71% having scored 63% in October 2003 in their initial assessment (an 8% rise in 2 years)

The Service are about to undergo their third full 2 day  assessment in March 2008 (They will be the first Sports Development Services in Nottinghamshire to have undergone 3 full Quest assessments)

 

This demonstrates that the Service is committed to continuous improvement.

Health and Safety Management

Marketing

 

The team have focussed improvement work in these 4 areas and the 1 year maintenance assessment in April 2007 indicated significant changes have been made across all management areas.

When are they available to hire?

 

Your local schools are community facilities after 6.00pm on weekdays, from 9.00am on weekends and during school holidays.
