What is Shopmobility?
It is a scheme to enable disabled people to
loan a self-propelled, or battery operated wheelchair or scooter to
travel around the Town Centre.

Who is Eligible?
Anyone who has a physical disability whether
this is temporary or permanent. For example:
- mobility may be temporarily restricted by
hospital treatment,
- heart problems or stroke,
- mobility may be restricted by limb ailments
such as rheumatism or arthritis.
You are advised that certain makes of scooter
have a weight carrying limit, which are displayed in the individual
Shopmobility. The overloading of vehicles is prohibited, and
results in invalidation of insurance cover. The client should
inform the member of staff on duty, if they think there may be the
risk of overloading. Failure to do so will result in termination of
membership. The issuing of scooters to individuals is according to
the discretion of the Shopmobility Assistant.
How can I join?
You will need to:
- Bring two forms of identity
- Fill in an application form
- Have a photograph taken
- Pay £1.50 for the cost of the members card (remember your card
each time you wish to use a wheelchair or scooter).

How long may I loan a vehicle for?
This is dependent on the wheelchair/scooter
availability. It is advised that you ring the Shopmobility
Office at Worksop: Telephone 01909 479070 or Retford Telephone:
01777 705432, for a prior booking, where you will be advised
on the period available. Maximum advance booking: 14 days. The loan
of a wheelchair or scooter has a maximum time limit of three
hours.
When is it available?
During shopping hours from 9.00 am - 4.30
pm Tuesday to Saturday. The Assistants will close at sometime
between these times for a dinner hour, emphasizing the importance
of booking at both Worksop and Retford.
How far can I go?
Anywhere within the Town Centre (maps showing
boundaries are on display). Most of the footpaths have dropped
kerbs at convenient points that will accommodate the wheelchairs
and scooters. If you have problems at particular locations, please
inform the Shopmobility Office.
