Street Care and Cleaning

Our staff operate throughout the District cleaning litter from the vast areas of land, highways and roadside verges for which we have the cleansing responsibility.  We also have responsibility for clearing litter from our two main town centres at Retford and Worksop, which can be particularly problematic on market days.

Our efforts are hindered by those irresponsible individuals who drop litter and fly tip throughout the District.  We work closely with the Council's Environmental Health staff to identify those individuals and the Council have already taken a number of prosecutions for fly tipping and will continue to do so.

This process has been aided with the introduction of legislation which allow us to ask for proof of proper waste disposal from commercial operations in the District.

Public Toilets

We have six public toilet facilities in the District, 2 in Worksop, 2 at Retford and 1 each at Harworth and Church Laneham.

The facilities are open between 8.00am and 5.00pm on Monday to Saturday.  The facility at Church Laneham, Harworth and Chancery Lane, Retford are also open on Sundays between 9.30am and 4.00pm.

Abandoned Vehicles

Again in an attempt to keep our environment as attractive as possible, we collect abandoned vehicles if they are reported to us or if we spot them.  If you do spot one and report it to us please bear in mind that we have to follow certain legal requirements before we are allowed to move them except in exceptional circumstances so we cannot normally move them straight away.

Report an Abandoned Vehicle.

Fly Tipping

Hopefully you will not have noticed evidence of this around the district but sadly from time to time some people do think that its easier to throw rubbish in a hedge bottom or deserted lane than take it to a civic amenity site or to the tip.  Unfortunately we have the job of collecting this and try and do it with the minimum of fuss and as promptly as possible.

Discarded Needles and Syringes

We operate a 24 hour service to collect and dispose of used needles and syringes discarded on our streets and other public places.  We will respond as quickly as possible once a call has been received to minimise the risk of any potential injury occurring.
