Preventative Adaptations Service (PAS)

Also in this section:

This self-assessment scheme is aimed directly at the over 60’s within the Bassetlaw community and gives individuals the opportunity to identify their own needs and request some minor adaptations (such as grab rails, stair rails, hand rails and half-steps) for a small contributory fee.

The service objective is to help senior citizens feel safe in their own homes for longer by providing access to low cost adaptations without the necessity of a formal physical assessment of need by Adult Social Care and health , or having to undergo a means test.

Many people can find that, as they get older, they are not as steady on their feet as they were, and worry about the risk of having a fall at home.  Minor adaptations in the home can often help to reduce this risk, improve self-confidence, make individuals feel safer, and give peace of mind to families and friends.

This new pilot scheme has been set up in partnership between Nottinghamshire County Council, the Primary Care Trust, A1 Housing and Bassetlaw District Council.

Who can apply?

The scheme is available to anyone aged 60 or over whether you are a home-owner, tenant or leaseholder.

How can I apply?

With one phone call from either yourself, a relative or carer, or a health professional, the

PAS Co-ordinator can arrange for an adaptation such as a grab rail, stair rail, hand rail or

half step to be fitted at your home.

The number shown below has a 24 hour answering machine facility to cover all times when the office is not staffed.  Usual operating hours are Monday to Thursday between 10.00 am and 3.30 pm although flexible working means this may change occasionally.

Alternatively you, or someone on your behalf, may complete an application form. Forms are available at all Council offices, the One Stop Shops or by calling the PAS Co-ordinator on  Tel:  01909  535128.

You may also download a Preventative Adaptation Application Form. and print it yourself if you prefer.

Who will fit the Adaptation?

The PAS Co-ordinator will arrange this with an approved PAS contractor, all of whom are very experienced in this kind of work.

How much does it cost?

The service costs just £15 and is payable to the contractor who will fit the adaptation.
