What is the Council doing about Anti-Social Behaviour
(ASB)?
Do you think ‘Not a lot’. If so please read on,
you might be surprised.
An investment of £100,000 has been found from
Council funds, Central Government and A1 Housing Ltd. This
funding has been used to set up a unit dedicated to tackling
anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the District. The Unit works
with the other agencies which form the Community Safety Partnership
in a joint approach to the many and varied problems connected with
ASB
.
The members of the Unit are experienced in
investigating incidents relating to nuisance and public disorder
and also in gathering and recording evidence to use in court
proceedings where necessary.
Together with other agencies like the Police and
Education, the Unit works with individuals in an attempt to steer
them away from the criminal justice system in a proactive
approach.
Guiding individuals away from
ASB
is a priority of the Unit who
have already recorded successes in getting youngsters to engage
with other activities.
By co-ordinating our approach to tackling
ASB
the agencies are
able to act more effectively and efficiently. This may mean that
issues involving tenancy, education, prosecution or voluntary
contracts call all be addressed at the same time.
This joint working has resulted in sixteen
anti-social behaviour orders being issued by the courts in
Bassetlaw as well as injunctions and acceptable behaviour contracts
to date with many more such orders in the pipeline.
Well, has that changed your mind! If not
read on.
Above is only a snapshot of the work the agencies
are doing. The unit works with the Police to tackle problems
with drugs, and to date four Closure Orders have been obtained
against premises habitually being used for the sale, supply or use
of drugs. These premises all being residences have been
closed down and shuttered, stopping access by anyone including the
occupants. The premises remain closed until the order
expires or is removed and then they can be occupied by new
tenants.
Any conduct that interferes with the quality of
life in the community can be
ASB
and Bassetlaw District Council
through the
ASB
Unit in
partnership with other Departments and Services will work with
interested agencies to address the issue and where possible bring a
satisfactory conclusion.
Still not convinced, well how about discussing
any problem you have with
ASB
with a member of the Unit, we
would welcome your call.
