Advice for home owners who are having difficulty paying their
mortgage
If you are a home owner living in the Bassetlaw area and are
either in arrears with your mortgage already or are struggling to
meet your monthly mortgage payment, the Council's Housing Needs
Team may be able to help. However, before contacting the Housing
Needs Team, it is recommended that you take the steps outlined
below if you are concerned about your present and/or future ability
to meet your mortgage repayments or your financial situation in
general.
There are various other organisations and charities that can
provide financial and debt advice, free of charge, details of which
are also listed below.
Steps to take
- Contact your mortgage lender in the first instance - it is very
important that you do this as your mortgage lender has to act in a
reasonable manner and exhaust all options available to them before
they can even consider taking repossession action against you. Do
not be afraid to contact your mortgage lender as they may be able
to help.
- Contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau - the CAB can provide free
independent debt and money advice and will work with you to
prioritise debts, provide budgetary advice and negotiate on your
behalf with creditors etc.
- Contact the Council's Housing Needs Team to make an appointment
for a Housing Needs Assessment to take place.
There are relevant organisations who can provide advice and
assistance to people who are having difficulty paying their
mortgages. Advice and assistance
