Chairman of the Council
The civic head is the Chairman of the Council who
was elected on 14th May 2008 at the Council's Annual General
Meeting and will hold office for one year.
This year's Chairman is Councillor David
Hare.

David was born in 1941 in Conisborough, South
Yorkshire. He met his wife, Dianne, in 1961 whilst in
Sheffield's Royal Infirmary where he was being treated
for osteomylitis - Dianne being a nurse. They married in 1964
and have three sons - the eldest, Richard, born in 1967 and twin
sons, Philip and Graham, followed in 1970. They now
have four grandchildren - Bethany, aged 13, Abbie, aged 11,
Mitchell, aged 5, and Olivia, aged 3. David and his wife have
lived in Carlton-in-Lindrick since 1970.
David's working career:
- 1956-1968: Steetley Company - Cadeby Works -
Office Junior to Office Manager
- 1968-1973: Steetley Company Head Office -
Gateford Hill (now a nursing home)
Administrator
- 1973-1975: Henry Boot Construction - Dronfield -
Purchasing Officer

- 1981-1997: North Notts College - Worksop -
Administrator and College Lecturer
- 1997-2000: North Notts College and
Doncaster Technical College - Part-time Lecturer
David's political career:
- 1968-1971: Doncaster Borough Councillor
- 2003 to date: Bassetlaw
District Councillor
- Also Carlton Parish Councillor for the past 30
years
David's interests (mainly sport):
- Football - ardent supporter of Doncaster Rovers
for 55 years
- Cricket - supporter of both Nottinghamshire and
Yorkshire County Cricket Clubs
- Also former secretary of Worksop and Carlton
Cricket Clubs
David will be supporting two charities
during his year of office: Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and St
Giles Special School.
This year's Vice-Chairman is Councillor Helen
Colton.
