Deaths, Funerals and Cremations
You are legally required to register a death.
Doing so will provide you with documents needed to arrange the

Funerals and Cremations
A funeral can be either by burial or by
cremation. You can organise it with or without the help of a
funeral director, and personalise it as much as you wish. In some
cases the deceased may have planned their own funeral in
advance.
However, you can not finalise the date for a
funeral until you have registered the death. The date could
also be affected if the death has to be reported to the
coroner.
You should be able to find your local funeral
directors in the telephone directory.
Most funeral directors are members of one of two trade
associations:
If you wish to organise the funeral yourself
help is available on how to do this on the
BBC website.

Cemeteries
Bassetlaw District Council have responsibility
for administering all burials in the three main cemeteries at
Retford Road and Hannah Park in Worksop and one in Retford. In
addition we hold and maintain the records of all past and present
burials that have taken place in each one.
We do our best to make these environments as pleasant as possible,
the mature woodland at Retford Cemetery in particular is beautiful
the whole year round.
We also offer a Woodland burial service at both Hannah Park and
Retford whereby we will plant a tree on the plot and place a
memorial plaque on an adjacent wall as a more sensitive approach to
remembering our loved ones.
