Economic Development
Also in this section:
Economic Development promotes and supports the
economic development of our District, by managing and facilitating
initiatives and projects in a wide range of areas. This includes
working closely with many groups and organisations including the
Local Strategic Partnership to bring together a wealth of
knowledge, experience and determination to achieve positive actions
to benefit local businesses, and improved quality of life for our
residents.
The main aims and objectives of the Economic
Development Unit are:
- To work in partnership with local
agencies, groups and bodies to deliver regeneration programmes and
projects;
- To identify opportunities and threats for
the local economy and address these accordingly;
- To secure funding and investment to target
activity into these areas and address problems related to
deprivation and/or industrial decline;
- To provide an information and advice
service for investors on the availability of sites and premises,
development opportunities in the District and financial
assistance;
- To ensure that local firms have access to
and are aware of business support programmes available in the
District;
- To encourage residents to learn, to help
ensure that suitable training provision is available and to address
barriers to employment and training;
- To work in partnership with the local
community, business fora and private sector to create attractive
successful retail environments;
- To promote the District as an attractive
tourist destination and look at new tourism products.
