Village Design Statements are produced by local communities to
set out the features of the local area which provide the character
of that community. They provide an invaluable resource for anyone
considering development in the area by providing an insight into
the design issues that are of local concern.
Bassetlaw District Council has agreed to acknowledge the
publication of the documents listed below and to make them
available for information purposes to applicants and on the
planning pages of the Bassetlaw website.
It should be noted that at this stage it is not possible for the
District Council to formally adopt the Statements as Supplementary
Planning Document as they have not been through the formal
sustainability appraisal process required for such documents and
also the Council does not have a relevant adopted policy to relate
them to. As a result whilst the document will not carry any
statutory weight and there may be occasions where the Village
Design Statement does not fully accord with other guidance and
advice. In these cases officers will need to balance the issues
raised and the weight to be afforded to each document in reaching
their recommendation upon an individual proposal.
