Local Development Scheme (LDS)

The Local Development Scheme (LDS) is the Council's project plan for the progression of the Local Development Framework:

  • it provides a brief description of all the development plan documents that will form the District's Local Development Framework, to be prepared by the Council and of the content and geographic area to which they will relate;

  • it explains how the different documents relate to each other and particularly to the Core Strategy and other higher level plans, including the East Midlands Regional Plan (Regional Spatial Strategy); and

  • it sets out the timetable for producing each document.

Update on the Progress of the Bassetlaw Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD

Consultation on the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD Issues and Options Paper took place between 14 September and 23 October 2009, after which time development of the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies Preferred Options Paper began. It was expected that consultation on this next stage would commence in April 2010. However, the intended consultation period on this paper conflicted with the run up to the General and Local Elections on 6 May 2010.  Consultation on the Preferred Options was delayed, therefore, until 10 May 2010.

Following this unavoidable delay the Council formally submitted the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD to the Planning Inspectorate on Monday 31 January 2011. Post-examination, the Council has consulted on changes recommended by the Inspector and the possible implications of the Draft National Planning Policy Framework on the DPD.

The Council expects to receive the Inspector’s Report on the Examination on Friday 4 November and hope to adopt the DPD by January 2012.

Initial consultation on the Site Allocations process has begun with questionnaires sent to interested local residents to help us to understand aspirations and concerns over the potential future development within different localities. A summary of these responses will be made available  on the website in May.

The next formal stage of consultation is the ‘Issues and Options Document’. This will set out options for potential development sites, drawing on a range of issues including  the results of previous consultations. The document will set out options for growth, such as new housing, employment, retail and opportunity sites, along with any issues relating to that new growth. Consultation on the Issues and Options document will commence on Monday 7 November.

The key milestones for the production of the Site Allocations DPD are detailed below:

  • Consultation on scope of sustainability appraisal- 31 January 2011
  • Issues and Options document consultation- 7 November 2011
  • Preferred Options document consultation- May 2012
  • Publication of DPD- August 2012
  • Submission of DPD- September 2012
