Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Study

In 2005, Fordham Research was commissioned to carry out a study of Gypsies and Travellers’ housing needs in Bassetlaw District. The study was designed to assess the amount and quality of accommodation provision for Gypsies and Travellers in the District, estimate the extent of housing need and also make recommendations for extending assistance. This is in the context of the Housing Act 2004 that requires local authorities to include Gypsy and Travellers in their local housing needs assessments. The study also aims to give the Council a wider understanding of issues facing Gypsies and Travellers on official and unauthorised sites.

In 2010, a review of the Bassetlaw Gypsy & Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment and the County’s Gypsy & Traveller Accommodation Assessments was undertaken. This review did not include new assessments of need, but did provide an update of the changes to housing and planning guidance regarding gypsies and travellers. An update of existing sites, and any new provision since the initial studies, was also produced.
