The centre of Tuxford was designated a conservation area in
1980. Over recent years buildings have become empty and
needing repair with many losing their historic architectural
features. In 2009 English Heritage categorised Tuxford as a
‘Conservation Area at Risk’, as the area was losing its historic
significance.
In order to stem the decline and enable
building owners and businesses to restore the historic centre of
Tuxford and contribute to its rejuvenation Bassetlaw District
Council, working in partnership with Nottinghamshire County
Council and English Heritage have launched a grant
scheme.
The grant scheme shall allow for repair and
restoration of building as well as the reinstatement of the
historic features where there is evidence they once existed.
The grant scheme is conservation lead, therefore traditional
methods and building materials should be used throughout.
Depending on the extent and nature of works grants may be offered
up to 80% of the total cost.
