Our Public Relations Staff
Mark Heywood has been the Public Relations
Officer at Bassetlaw District Council for five years.
Mark originally hails from Lancashire. He
holds qualifications in both Journalism and Marketing, and is an
Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations
Before coming to Bassetlaw, Mark’s past jobs
included:
- Freelance writer with articles featured in
regional magazines.
- Sports Editor and breakfast show co-host at
a Manchester radio station.
- Editor for a small London publishing
company, developing new magazine titles.
Mark has also worked as a stadium announcer,
cocktail waiter and laboratory analyst. Other short-lived
careers have been in advertising sales, refuse collection and
selling potatoes from the back of van.
His primary responsibilities are Media
Relations, Communications Strategy, Internal Communications,
Corporate Identity and producing Bassetlaw News, the Council’s
Newspaper.
Mark is married with one child and lives in
Bassetlaw. Outside work he is a sports fanatic and a keen film
buff. He also enjoys Guinness, fell-walking and Guinness.

Before starting work as the Assistant Public
Relations Officer, Matt Woodward worked for three
years at the Worksop Guardian, a local newspaper.
As well as working for the local paper, he has
also had articles published in the national press, has presented
radio shows and edited the sports section of a student
newspaper.
Matt holds qualifications in journalism
and politics and successfully completed the Gold and Silver Duke of
Edinburgh awards.
Matt’s past jobs have included working for the
Masons, as a HR professional for a global business and in a
benefits office. He has also tried his hand at selling windows and
as a school caretaker.
His primary responsibilities are Media
Relations and internal communications, although he is often called
upon to support Mark in all areas of his work.
Outside of work Matt is a keen ornithologist
and has helped lead trips to India and France to study and record
bird species.
