Sports Development Team come top of the class
Bassetlaw District Council’s Sports
Development Unit QUEST for glory has seen them reach the gold medal
standard in a recent inspection.
In May the unit underwent their third full
external Quest assessment – the quality scheme for sport
and leisure in the UK.
And in doing so the team became the first
sports development service in Nottinghamshire to do so. Full
external assessments are carried out every two years and the
Council’s Sports Development Team has now been accredited since
2003.
Back in 2003 the team was awarded a score of
63% (60% is required to achieve registered status). In 2005 the
external assessor’s score had risen to 71% and the latest
inspection saw the unit awarded a score of
87%.
This improved score now places the Bassetlaw
Sports Development Unit into the category of being accredited as an
“Excellent” service.
“Full marks to the unit for achieving such a good score and
congratulations for all their hard work,” said Councillor Keith
Isard, Portfolio Holder for Community Prosperity.
“The fact that we have improved consistently over the three
inspections shows we are determined to continue to provide the best
possible service to our customers and partners.”
“It clearly demonstrates this service can and
does achieve “Continuous Improvement” in the way it operates. “
The external assessment is carried out over
two full days and involves presentations and interviews with staff,
coaches, leaders, partners and volunteers.
It seeks to examine the policies and
procedures and requires in-depth evidence to support all statements
made.
It investigates the service in ten different
management areas; (1) Research & Community Engagement, (2)
Planning, (3) Partnerships, (4) Continuous Improvement, (5)
Management Support & Leadership, (6) People Management &
Development, (7) Delivery Planning & Procedures, (8) Health
& Safety Management, (9) Customer Relations & (10)
Marketing.
With an overall score of 87% there are now no
weak areas within Bassetlaw Sports Development and the majority of
the ten management areas have moved into being very strong and
extremely strong.
