HollyMercian’s to Switch on Worksop Christmas Lights

This year’s Worksop Christmas Lights switch on will be carried out by an officer from the Mercian Regiment, with the event dedicated to all service personnel who sacrificed their lives in current and past conflicts.

Amongst the events included in the Switch On will be a continental style market, a performance of a specially written pantomime and a Trax FM Roadshow.

The market will run from 10:00am until 8:00pm. At 5:30pm Councillor Helen Colton, Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council accompanied by Father Christmas will lead a procession of Pantomime characters from the Matalan parking area in Eastgate to a mobile stage parked at Bridge Street Market where TraxFM will stage a Roadshow from 5:00pm until 6:00pm.

St Ann's choir with the Worksop Miners Welfare Brass Band will then lead the carol singing at the stage before the lights are turned on.

At 6:35pm Councillor Colton will invite an officer from the Mercian regiment to switch on the lights triggering a special cannon that will shower the audience with snow, announcing a 20-minute Pantomime specially written for the occasion. This will play from the stage as Councillor Colton and her party visit the market stalls on their way to a civic reception in the Town Hall.

Councillor Colton said, “At this special time of the year we want to remember the families whose loved ones are on active service or who have lost loved ones. Everyone is invited to join us in a special tribute to them, with a memorial candle being lit to honour them and donations can be made to support our local troops at Christmas.”
