Safer Neighbourhood Team spruce up Retford town centre
RETFORD Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team
will spruce up the area with a litter pick and a graffiti clean-up
involving local children.
PC Tony McDonald and PCSO Colin Haywood
identified the appearance of the town was of concern to local
residents during community consultation.
PC Mcdonald said: “It has been identified as
a town centre priority by the local residents and people that work
in the town centre, so we wanted to do something to improve the
appearance of the town for them and for visitors.”
“We thought it would be nice to get the
community involved to give us a hand and give them a sense of
satisfaction when they see the results. It also make the young
people less likely to drop litter or commit graffiti in the
future.”
A litter pick will take place in Kings Park
at 9am on Sunday 22 June 08.
The graffiti clean-up will take place at
various problem sites in the town, where graffiti will be painted
over or cleaned off if possible.
Councillor Mike Pugsley, Portfolio Holder
for Environment and Housing at Bassetlaw District Council, said:
“We are very pleased to be giving our support to this project which
will further help to enhance the image of Retford town centre.”
“Working with the police and other volunteers
we will be providing a skip, black bags, gloves and litter pickers
to make sure we get the best job possible done.”
“This really is partnership working at its
best - if we work together we can all make a difference.”
The Safer Neighbourhood Team is also appealing
for financial help from local people or businesses to cover the
cost of these events.
