Clumber Park Stages Bassetlaw Race for Life

Race for lifeThousands of Bassetlaw women will have the chance to take part in a Cancer Research UK Race for Life, when the national event comes to Clumber Park on 18th July 2010.

The Race for Life is the UK’s largest women only fundraising event with all the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. Mums, daughters, sisters and friends are invited to join in the unique event.

Clumber Park will stage a 5k Race for Life and for those who want a bit more of a challenge a 10K. Both races start at 10:30am.

Tony Wright, Sports Development Team Leader at Bassetlaw District Council said:

“It’s exciting that Bassetlaw will be finally hosting a Race for Life and making the most of the beautiful surroundings that Clumber Park offers. By working in partnership with the National Trust and Race for Life Team women of all ages can walk, run or jog to help Cancer Research UK.”

Alison Mackfall, East Midlands Events Manager for Race for Life, said:

“The event is going to be full of amazing moments for everyone as women of all ages and fitness abilities join together to walk, jog or run 5k to help beat cancer.”

The organisers are also keen for volunteers to get involved and show their support.

Alison added: “By simply helping they will be doing their bit to beat Cancer.”

Cancer Research UK funds leading scientific and clinical research in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. For example, Cancer Research UK researchers in Sheffield are examining the impact of the new national bowel cancer screening programme on survival rates for bowel cancer in England.

This work should help develop and improve the screening programme, so that many more cases of bowel cancer are detected at a stage where they can be treated successfully.

Cancer Research UK also funds a number of researchers at the University of Nottingham including a team of scientists who are investigating the best way to treat certain types of brain tumours in children. This important work could lead to better survival for children with this disease.
