Work starts on the Canch refurbishment

Work on The CanchPhase one of the Canch and Memorial Gardens refurbishment programme has already started. Work has been done to clean out the lower Canch and a conservation plan for the library building is underway.

The main works programme starts in January with tree maintenance and removals to improve the visibility of the area. Plans will also be prepared for footpath improvements and new piazza areas.

"We apologise in advance to anyone who may experience minor inconvenience when using the facilities as a result of the works.” says Councillor Keith Isard, cabinet member for Community Prosperity.

"It is anticipated that construction of the fountain pool will start in early February, on the site of the current paddling pool. This is a key play feature and should prove popular with children.

"Several funding bids have been submitted. If they are successful there will be further work on the Canch throughout next year delivering on the phase-by-phase plans that came out of the public participation process earlier in the year.

"The Canch is an exciting project and the proposed improvements should place it high up on the list of visitor attractions to Worksop."
