Taxi marshals working in town centres until end of March
As of this coming Friday and Saturday evening (18th and 19th
December) there will be two taxi marshals in both Worksop and
Retford Town Centres, between 2200hrs and 0300 hrs. In Retford they
will be on Market Square and in Worksop in Bridge Place, outside
Argos.
According to Gerald Connor, coordinator of the Bassetlaw and
Newark & Sherwood Community Safety Partnership, "As was the
case last year, the marshals will be wearing high visibility
jackets marked with the Partnership logo. They have previously
worked successfully in and around the Oldham area and they are all
SIA registered and trained. The plan is to have them working at
weekends and other relevant peak evenings between now and the end
of March.
"The purpose of the service is ensure that people waiting for
taxis queue in an orderly way and do not jump the queue. If any
situations develop that they are unable to control, they are in
radio contact with the Police and will call for help. The CCTV
control room and the street pastors are also aware that the
Marshals will be in place.
The service is funded by the Home Office’s Fund for tackling
issues related to the Night Time Economy."
