Bassetlaw businesses given room to grow

The Council is investing in the future of growing businesses as 10 new multi-purpose units at Retford Enterprise Centre are just weeks away from being completed.

The £1.45M project has been developed in response to a demand for quality office and clean manufacturing space within the local area, and as a progression space for local businesses once they have outgrown their current facilities.

The project has been brought about thanks to an investment of £590,000 from Bassetlaw District Council (in addition to £135,000 of section 106 funding) and a £725,000 grant from the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.

Of the 10 new two-storey units, 4 ground floor spaces will be able to accommodate clean manufacturing and production with the remaining units suitable for office space.

Cllr Jo White, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “This extension of Retford Enterprise Centre will address the growing demand for quality units where successful local companies can continue to develop their businesses.

“In the past there have been occasions where we have not been able to accommodate successful businesses as they out-grew the Retford Enterprise Centre. We want to continue to support growing businesses and this development has specifically been created to allow companies to continue to flourish in North Nottinghamshire.”

Nigel Brewster, Vice Chair of the Sheffield City Region’s business organisation, the Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We are delighted to see businesses growing and developing in Retford. The ‘let’s get it done’ work-ethic in Sheffield City Region harnesses drive and ambition, and helps to attract and retain and develop skills in the region which are so important for the SCR’s sustainable growth.”

The Retford Enterprise Centre was built in 2010 and is currently home to 22 businesses. It also provides virtual tenancies for 17 businesses that need a base but are not quite ready to commit to renting a full-time office.

The new units are expected to be ready for tenants in October 2017.
