THE search to find the district’s sporting heroes of 2016 is almost here as Bassetlaw’s annual Sports Awards is just over a month away.

Nominations for this year’s Sports Awards closes on Monday 7th November with 11 categories to choose from that encompass athletes, coaches, volunteers and teams across three age groups.

The event, which is now in its 20th year, celebrates all things sport and will recognise the achievements, success and dedication of sportsmen and women at the Elizabethan Academy, Retford on Friday 2nd December.

Cllr Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “The Bassetlaw Sports Awards are a highlight of the year where we celebrate sporting success as well recognise the dedicated volunteers and coaches who work tirelessly to make sport happen in the district.”

“If you know of someone who deserves true sporting recognition this year, make sure they don’t miss out and get your nomination in soon!”

This year’s awards categories include:

  • Sportsman Under 14 years
  • Sportswoman Under 14 years
  • Sportsman 14-18 years
  • Sportswoman 14-18 years
  • Senior Sportsperson
  • Open Disability Category
  • Junior Volunteer (Under 18)
  • Senior Volunteer (18 and Over)
  • Sports Coach
  • Junior Sports Team (including schools)
  • Lifetime Achievement
