Welcome to Worksop Shop Incentive Scheme

Bassetlaw District Council has partnered with landlord Brearley and Company to offer a £5,000* ‘Welcome to Worksop’ incentive scheme for businesses interested in renting retail premises at 57 – 59 Bridge Street, Worksop.

The incentive scheme offers a discount of £2500 on the rent of the property from the landlord and a further £2500 in the form of an Enterprise Grant from the Council. In addition, the Council will arrange for a business mentor for anybody taking on the property.

The property  has a rateable value of £13,000 set by the Governments Valuation Office Agency. This means that the maximum rates payable per year (2017/18) for this property is £6058. However, a business may qualify for Small Business Rates Relief, which would mean that the property would only incur rates of £2,020 per year (2017/18). The Council can assist in applying for Small Business Rate relief and there is no charge for this service.

Councillor Simon Greaves, Leader of Bassetlaw District Council said:

“I am delighted that we can partner with Brearley and Company and offer an incentive package to bring this town centre shop back into use. High Streets across the country are competing with online retailers, supermarkets and out of town shopping centres. I hope that this incentive scheme can help re-let this shop and that we can welcome a new business to Worksop.”

Stuart Brearley, Managing Director of Brearley and Company said:

“We are happy to support the Welcome to Worksop scheme and offer an incentive to attract a new business to the town centre. By working with the Council we hope that this unit can be occupied and that a new business can be supported and thrive in the town.”
