Kings' Park Performance Area

As part of the wider improvement of Kings’ Park in Retford, a brand new performance area is currently being built, after the old performance pad fell into disrepair.

Retford Civic Society successfully applied for a £20k grant from Nottinghamshire County Council Supporting Local Communities Grant towards the costs of building the canopy.

The Civic Society, along with Bassetlaw District Council and E.E.S Showhire, have all had an input into the design of the pad.

Designed to be functional, robust and add interest to the park. The performance area has been located to maximise the best views of the area, by placing it at the foot of a grass slope, therefore allowing natural seating and excellent views of the stand from all angles.

It is hoped that the area will be used for many events throughout the year, by all types of performing arts, dance, music and theatre and will be finished by the end of April.

Liz Prime, Head of Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said:

“The new performance area in Kings' Park is really starting to take shape and we hope to open it to the public from early May.

“It has been designed to be versatile and lend itself to any type of performance and we can’t wait to see the many and varied types of artists, performers and attractions who will want to use this fantastic new facility.

“The performance area is part of the wider improvement plans for Kings’ Park and follows the significant investment that was made last year to install a water play facility close by. We hope this will further enhance what the park has to offer and add another dimension to the current facilities.”
