Fly-tipping on Red Lane
An incident of fly-tipping occurred on Red Lane on Tuesday 9 January which led to an overnight road closure by Via East Midlands, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.
Cllr Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said:
“This is a disgusting case of fly-tipping that could have potentially caused a serious accident on an unlit and single track road.
“This can be quite a busy short cut for motorists and, to ensure the safety of the public, we worked with colleagues at Via East Midlands to close the road overnight and cleared the fly-tipping first thing on Wednesday morning.
“This appears to be someone who has carried out a garden clearance and rather than dispose of the waste responsibly, has dumped it on a public highway leaving rubble, plant pots and glass strewn across the road.
“A member of the public witnessed a truck with a yellow cab in the area at the time of the incident and Environmental Health Officers are currently making enquiries and checking footage from CCTV cameras in the area. We would also like to appeal to the public for more information if they witnessed anything in connection with this incident.”
