Bassetlaw District Council has introduced a 1% surcharge on all credit card payments. This charge is purely to cover the cost passed to the Council by the Credit Card companies and does not generate any surplus or profit on the transaction.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that no trader should charge fees that exceed the cost borne by the trader for the use of credit cards and the 1% charge will cover the Council’s costs.

In 2015/16 the Council was charged on average £2.11 for every credit card transaction made with the Council. This surcharge applies to all Credit Card transactions made with Bassetlaw District Council and A1 Housing.
