The Liquorice Gardens in Worksop were named as Bassetlaw winners at this year’s Nottinghamshire Best Bar None awards.

Pubs, bars and clubs across the district celebrated as the winners of awards were announced at an exclusive awards evening held at the Poppy and Pint in West Bridgford on 24 April.

Other pubs, bars and clubs within the district who also met the accreditation were The Dominie Cross, Spencer’s on the Square and The Herbalist in Retford and Roman’s Rest and Yates in Worksop,

Venues from across Nottinghamshire who compete for the top prize, are put through their paces of the Best Bar None assessment, which requires them to demonstrate how they offer the safest environment possible, operate responsibly and provide their customers with the best possible experience.

Councillor Josie Potts, Chair of Licensing at Bassetlaw who presented the award to the Bassetlaw Winners said:

“I am very proud of The Liquorice Gardens winning the award for Bassetlaw. The commitment the venue has shown in running a quality establishment and creating a safe environment where people can enjoy a night out has clearly been recognised.”

Best Bar None is a national scheme, supported by the Home Office. There are currently over 30 individual schemes across the country, with each scheme tailored to suit each area in which it is run. Due to the way Best Bar None encourages licensees to continually improve their standards of operation, some areas that operate schemes have shown impressive reductions in alcohol-related crime and disorder.

The scheme, which launched in 2015, was the country’s first county-wide scheme and is co-funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner.

This year Fraser Brown Solicitors and Diageo GB sponsored the scheme.
