Strategic Tenancy Strategy

Tenancy Strategy

Under the Localism Act, all Local Authorities have a duty to produce a Tenancy Strategy.

We are currently in the process of developing Bassetlaw District Council's Draft Tenancy Strategy.

Consultation date to be announced shortly.

Aims and objectives

The key aims of Bassetlaw District Council’s Tenancy Strategy are to:

  •   Fulfil the council’s legal duties as set out in the Localism Act and in the Housing Act Part VI and VII (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002
  • To set out clear expectations for registered providers operating in the district
  • To make the best use of the council’s housing stock and wider social and affordable housing  in the district
  • To prevent homelessness and enable housing to be offered to those in the greatest need
  • To offer tenancies which are in the interest of the individual household
  • To create and maintain sustainable communities

Consultation project summary

Bassetlaw District Council is interested in gathering information from:

  • Members of the Public

  • Making the best use of social and affordable housing to reduce housing need and facilitate tenant mobility
