Insulation Giveaway February 2012...
Bassetlaw District Council are running a competition for one
lucky Bassetlaw resident to win the full cost of cavity
wall and/or loft insulation for their home.
The competition is for homeowners and private tenants and
anyone who has a FREE survey carried out by Warmstreets between
Monday 27th February and Friday 9th March 2012 is in with a chance
of winning. To find out more about why insulating your home can
help towards reducing your household energy bills visit our
Fuel Poverty
page.
Please note: The giveaway is not open to
employees of the Council or A1 Housing, and the winner must be
willing to take part in publicity.
Our previous winner was Mr Wayne Edeson, who
received a cheque totalling £198 for having both cavity
wall insulation and loft insulation installed to his
property...well done!
Beware of Bogus Callers!
Following a report of a possible scam in
Bassetlaw, the District Council is warning householders to be on
their guard for bogus offers of cavity wall and loft
insulation.
The Council are running a scheme called
Warmstreets in
partnership with Apex Carbon Solutions to help householders reduce
their energy bills and combat fuel poverty by installing cavity
wall and loft insulation to private properties.
Unfortunately, an elderly couple were
approached by bogus callers claiming to represent Warmstreets and
took £60 as an upfront payment for cavity wall and loft insulation.
They did not return to carry out the work.
Bassetlaw Warmstreets contractors will always
provide identification as well as a phone number for the Council so
that householders can check the legitimacy of the scheme.
Bassetlaw Warmstreets will never ask for
upfront payment or pressurise households to take part in the
scheme.
For further information on the Scheme please
contact either Gemma French at Bassetlaw Council on 01909 534547 or
Warmstreets on Freephone 0800 043 9569.
BBC Report Energy Scam
Victims of an "energy saving" device scam
are being targeted for a second time with bogus offers of
compensation.
Elderly householders have been receiving phone calls from
con-artists selling a plug-in gadget which is claimed to cut
electricity use.
Officials say the gadget is unsafe, and now a bogus claims
management company has been calling to offer compensation.
But victims never receive the compensation and end up paying
about £300 for "administration" costs
