Bassetlaw District Council (from hereon in referred to as
the Council) is committed to being open and honest about the
way we use cookies. We want our services to be safe and enjoyable
environments for our users. Within these pages, we will explain
what cookies are, what cookies the Council uses, and what your

What is a cookie?

What Cookies does the Council website use?
The Council only uses a few cookies, none of these are classed
as intrusive and all are explained below. Whenever a cookie is/will

- ASP.NET SessionID Cookie
(ASP.NETSessionId)
This cookie is essential to be able to use
our website. It is created as soon as you visit our website, and
stores a unique identifier for your session. This session cookie is
not persisted on your hard disk and expires as soon as you leave
the website.
- Google Analytics Cookies (_utma, _utmb, _utmc,
_utmz)
The Council website uses Google Analytics, a
web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics
sets a cookie in order to evaluate your use of the website and
compile reports for us on activity on the website. It is using
these reports that we base our decisions on where information
should be placed to make it easier for you to find.
Google have developed a browser Add-on which
excludes Google Analytics recording your activities on any
websites using Google Analytics. It's totally free and can be
installed on most browsers. Please use the following link, and
be aware that at the time of writing, this add-on is still in
BETA (last stage of testing before commercial release).

- User Poll Cookie (userPoll)
If you have taken part in one of our User
Poll’s, your answer will have been placed in a cookie and stored on
your device, this enables us to show you the results of the poll
instead of the opening question, and restrict your vote to only
once.
Wherever a poll is being used on our
website, you will see a note advising that it will place a cookie
on your device should you vote.
- Colour Scheme and Text Size Cookie
(StylePicker:fontsize, StylePicker:colourscheme)
If you make use of our accessibility options
and choose to “Remember the Settings”. Our website will place a
cookie on your device, so that every time you visit, your preferred
text size and colour scheme are automatically selected.
When you choose to "Remember the Settings"
there is a note explaining that this will place a cookie on your
device.
- My Links Cookie (MyLinks)
If you make use of the My Links feature,
that enables you to store your most used or favourite pages of our
website for easier access, these pages will then be placed in a
cookie, which our website will call upon, and display in the “My
Links” box.
Should you use the MyLinks feature, a note
is situated just below the feature explaining that this will use
cookies to function.
Will the Council share my personal information with anyone
else?
Any information you give to the Council through our website,
either through these cookies mentioned above, or by submitting an
online form to us, will only be used by the Council for the
purposes intended, except where disclosure is required or permitted
by law (for example to government bodies and law enforcement
agencies)
How do I control and delete cookies?
The Council does not use cookies to collect personally
identifiable information about you. However, if you wish to
restrict or block the cookies which are set by us, or indeed any
other website, you can do this through your browser settings. The
Help function within your browser should tell you how.
Alternatively, you may wish to visit all about cookies which
contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide
variety of browsers. You will also find details on how to delete
cookies from your machine as well as more general information about
cookies.
Please be aware that restricting cookies may impact on the
functionality of the Council website and any others you visit.
If you wish to view your cookie code, just click on a cookie to
open it. You'll see a short string of text and numbers. The numbers
are your identification card, which can only be seen by the server
that gave you the cookie.
