The theme of this year’s Food Safety Week, which takes place from 11 to 17 June, is ‘food safety on a budget’.

This annual event, held to promote the importance of good food hygiene in the home, will focus on how people can ensure that they keep their food safe when trying to save money.

Plans are at an early stage, but advice and supporting material will be available on:

• appropriate use of ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates to ensure food safety and minimise food waste
• meal planning on a budget
• the safe use of leftovers
• growing your own vegetables
