Bassetlaw District Council’s Active Communities Team working in partnership with Ranby C of E Primary School has commenced an ambitious and very exciting Holistic Healthy Lifestyles Project with all pupils and families at the school.  Their project is called “Amazing Me,” with all the children having been given daily diaries to record various pieces of information in order that subsequent monitoring and evaluation can be undertaken to analyse the progress and benefits of this exciting scheme.

The overall scheme involves three different aspects;

(i) Physical Health

The Physical Health element is being delivered via a daily 10 minute challenge at the start of every school day, when all pupils walk, jog and run as far as they can for 10 minutes.

(ii) Mental Health

The Mental Health element is delivered via an initiative known as “Each Amazing Breath” when the staff and children are taught to use the “Take 5” breathing techniques to ease anxiety and stress and help gather strength and logical thought in order to give reasonable responses to difficult situations.

(iii) Healthy Eating

The Healthy Eating element is delivered via a project called “Target Nutrition” and delivered via an Advanced Clinical Weight Loss Practitioner. As part of this project, children and parents / carers are given information and recipes to use as alternatives to the usual food and drinks that are traditionally high in sugar content.

Ranby C of E, it is believed, is the only Primary School in the district to implement all three of these elements all at the same time and therefore are being seen as a pathfinder school for Bassetlaw.
